Lykes Elects Brennan Exec. Vice President
Robert J. Brennan of New Orleans, La., has been elected executive vice president of Lykes Bros. Steamship Co., Inc., it was announced by chairman Joseph T.
Mr. Brennan is also a member of the Lykes board of directors. As executive vice president, he fills the vacancy created when James M. Lykes Jr. retired at the close of a 44-year career with the Lykes organization.
Mr. Brennan is the senior traffic executive of Lykes and has been a senior vice president since 1974. He is a native of New Orleans and a graduate of Loyola University. His entire business career has been spent with the Lykes organization.
He rose steadily through the ranks of Lykes Lines after joining the company in 1942. After completing various assignments in the Lykes traffic division, Mr. Brennan was named assistant manager of the Lykes Continent Line in 1952, and transferred to the same post with the Lykes Mediterranean Line in 1954. In 1958, he was promoted to manager of the Lykes U.K. Line, and a year later was named manager of the Lykes Mediterranean Line. In 1964, he became assistant tonnage controller and in 1966 was appointed tonnage controller, a year in which he was also elected an assistant vice president of Lykes, his first promotion to the corporate ranks. In 1968, he was elected vice president of the Lykes Traffic Division, and in 1974 was one of four senior vice presidents elected.
